This was the first time YouthAlive Plus organized digital skills training on such a large scale. The bootcamp was held at the Temporal Tech Hub, Agubia Development Centre, and brought together students from different communities, including distant villages and several secondary schools. It became a meaningful and productive way for many students to spend their 2025 August holiday.
The bootcamp focused on graphic design, video editing, and the use of AI tools. Beyond teaching practical skills, the program was intentionally designed to help young people develop a globally relevant mindset. Each session began with our “Food of the Heart” discussions before moving into practical training.
The goal was to equip underserved youths — many of whom had never heard about digital skills or used digital tools because of their environment — with opportunities that could change their future. Through the program, participants were introduced to in-demand digital skills that are highly valuable in today’s global job market. More importantly, they were exposed to real pathways for building careers, creating earning opportunities, and becoming more competitive in the digital world.
Today, many of the students can confidently create AI-powered content, design graphics, upload their work on social media, and explore other productive digital platforms on their own.
What makes this initiative even more impactful is that the training was offered completely free of charge, despite similar programs often costing over ₦200,000. This reflects our commitment to bridging the gap in access to digital education and ensuring that students, regardless of their background, are not left behind.
For many participants, this was also their very first close interaction with a laptop. Some had never used one before, but during the bootcamp, they had the opportunity to learn, practice, and create designs using a computer for the first time.
